Before honey ever reaches a jar, it lives in the comb. Bees build thousands of six-sided wax cells, fill them with honey, and seal each one with a thin cap of beeswax when the honey is ready. Honeycomb is simply that comb, cut and packed just as the bees left it — honey in its most original form.
Can you eat the wax?
Yes. Beeswax is natural and edible. Most people chew a piece of comb, enjoy the honey that comes out, and then either swallow the soft wax or discard it — both are completely normal. If you are new to honeycomb, start with a small piece.
How to cut honeycomb
- Use a clean, dry, sharp knife. Warming the knife under hot water and drying it makes cutting easier.
- Cut small squares straight down through the comb.
- Place the pieces on a plate or board with a rim — honey will flow out of the cut cells.
- Cover the rest of the comb and keep it at room temperature.
Ways to serve honeycomb
- On its own, a small piece after a meal.
- On a platter with dates, cheese and Arabic coffee for guests.
- On warm bread, pancakes, labneh or yoghurt.
- As a centrepiece on the breakfast table during Ramadan and Eid gatherings.
Sidr honeycomb or Spring Flower honeycomb?
Sidr honeycomb has a warm, rich taste and a deep golden colour — a generous 2.3 kg comb that makes a striking centrepiece. Spring Flower honeycomb is lighter, with a gentle floral sweetness. Both come from Kashmir, Pakistan, and both are 100% natural with nothing added.
How to store honeycomb
Keep it covered at room temperature, away from sunlight and moisture. There is no need to refrigerate. Always use a clean, dry knife so no water or crumbs get into the comb.

Should I keep honeycomb in the fridge?
